Working On Weekends May Lead You To Depression

Work pressure is a dime a dozen issue faced by almost everyone these days. However, in this competitive world working around the clock is not a big deal for most of the women. But did you know working for nine-plus hours a day could put women at higher risk of depression, but not men?

A new study published in BMJ’s Journal of Epidemiology & Community Health says women who worked additional long hours, more than 55 hours a week, had 7.3 per cent extra depressive symptoms than those working a standard 35-40 hours a week.

While notably there is no specific reason why some people suffer from depression, although this mental health disorder can affect anyone at almost any age.

According to lead researcher Gill Weston, a postdoctoral student at the University College London, this is an observational study and can’t establish the exact causes.

Though, scientists believe that are many things can cause depression. Weekend working is linked to a higher risk of depression in both sexes says the new study. There’s no specific way to prevent the condition, however, there are strategies that may help which includes depression medications or syrup and most importantly healthy lifestyle and diet.
